The Choices for Children Program

The Choices for Children (CFC) program is an early intervention program for hard-of-hearing and deaf children under the age of 3. CFC combines American Sign Language (ASL), sign-supported English, and spoken English to enable communication for hard-of-hearing and deaf children.

What Is Early Intervention?

Early Intervention provides services and support to parents of deaf or hard of hearing children under the age of 3. It involves providing services and supports, such as in-home visitations, speech therapy, physical therapy, and other relevant services to the children. Many Early Intervention programs are provided free of cost or at a significantly reduced cost to families in every state.

Why Early Intervention?

Early Intervention can significantly improve a child’s ability to thrive in a hearing world, and an early start creates a higher likelihood that your child will reach their full speech, language, and social skills potential.
Early Intervention has had great success, and many children reach the same level of development as their hearing peers.

Pennsylvania Early Intervention Program

The Choices for Children (CFC) program is an early intervention program for hard-of-hearing/deaf children under the age of 3. CFC combines ASL, sign-supported English, and spoken English to enable communication for hard-of-hearing and deaf children. We operate in several counties in Pennsylvania. Check the bottom of the page to see if we serve your county.

Some of the Services We Provide Include:

  • Helping with communication between children and guardians
  • Helping with technology and utilizing them to make communication more effective
  • Providing options for hearing aids and/or cochlear implants and providing alternative options if guardians choose to opt out of aid
  • Get ready for the age 3 transition, where early intervention and in person support from Choices for Children will end, and children will have to enroll in an education system. Support can still be provided if parents choose to enroll their child into the WPSD school system.
  • Coaching parents who may be overwhelmed with having a child who is hard-of-hearing or deaf.

Our staff are experienced, certified teachers of the deaf and augment visitations with playgroups, camps, and online webinars. Our model is based on coaching you to assist your child, rather than directly training your child. CFC also aims to foster connections between your family and other families in a similar position and hosts regular meetups at one of our campuses.

CFC understands that your life is busy, and we strive to support as many individuals as possible. For your convenience, we offer services both in the home and at daycare facilities*.

*Due to COVID-19, we have moved to teletherapy in several of our counties. Please check with your county coordinator for the latest information
